Together We Can of St. Louis, a nationally recognized St. Louis childcare community,
provides early care and education to children ages six weeks to twelve years through a full curriculum of educational
and developmental activities. TWC’s curriculum, which is available to the general public, facilitates in depth
studies of concepts, ideas, and interest and encourages student to dialogue, compare, negotiate, and problem solve individually
and as a group. Through the age-appropriate curriculum developed in each classroom, students are empowered to develop
livelong learning habits and are otherwise educated and prepared for primary and secondary educational experiences.

At the end of September
2005 our child development center received word that the we would close on December 31. With that news came many mixed
emotions and confusion. As our community began to look at options we realized that what we all really wanted was what
we already had, so we decided to look inside ourselves for the solution. With much collaboration and the grace of God,
the building that formerly had been the St. Mary’s Child Development Center was purchased and the work began.
In mid December parents, grandparents, children, teachers, spouses, and friends of the community began to transform the space.
We tore down walls, painted from floor to ceiling, put in windows, cleaned, sanitized, refurnished, and cleaned some more.
Our efforts turned into an amazing success. In less than one month our community was able to refurbish a building, obtain
all the needed permits and licensees, and create a wonderful space for our children to call home.
On January 3, 2006 Together We Can of St. Louis opened its doors; fully staffed and ready for children. Within
the first year, we began the application process for NAEYC Accreditation (the National Association for the Education of Yound
Children’s accreditation signifies the highest of quality standards in early childhood education). After
months of hard work, NAEYC awarded accreditation to our center in March 2008. During that time we also began to the
process to become a non-for-profit organization so that we can better serve the entire community. This unique group of people
has not only managed to create a wonderful space for children to learn and grow, but has also shown their children the true
meaning of community. This is a story of the amazing things that can be accomplished when know what you have to do, are passionate
about it, and work together as a community to get it done.
